Dear Professor Herik:

	Here is a revised version of the paper.  As you will see,
I rewrote the part about the Berliner position rather completely,
because I had a new idea about trees.  The rest is much less
changed.  Note that since I went back to the original Berliner
position rather than the version I misremembered, you will have
to modify the diagram concerning the effect of added pawns if
you want to keep those paragraphs.

	You will surely want to redraw the figures I have labelled
xx, xxx and xxxx.

	I'm not sure the final result is entirely coherent, but
I don't have time to work on it more now.  Revise it further if
you like, or delay it till I have time to work on it some more
which would be at the end of January.  I'm not sure the result
of waiting would be much more than a cosmetic improvement.
